1" 30" Hard Pack  reported: 01/04/2015 at 4:55 PM EST by Dad and Sons

Groomed, Wind-Packed, Thin Spots, Icy Spots, Rocky Spots, Bare Spots, Uncrowded, Windy, Snowy, Flat Light

Here on Dec 31 - Jan 2, 2015. Good manmade coverage on most primary runs but back country needs a good foot of real snow to be skiable. Severe cold and wind starting to create more icy spots, but light snow over the next couple of days and grooming should help. Suggest checking accumulations before making the trip as backcountry is the best part of this place.

Groomed

Skied here on 1/1 and 1/2/13. Temps of -20 to -5 (without the wind!) couldn't deter us. Great coverage throughout. Most everything groomed but still some untracked areas here and there off to the sides. Could really use several more inches at this point for most woods and ungroomed lift lines, but still plenty of terrain to keep everyone happy, especially if you love carving the corduroy. Run of the day was Line of Bull -- just enough coverage, bumps and packed, yet ungroomed, snow to keep it interesting. Charlotte;s Web is a close second with plenty of coverage in the trees, Don't bother with Mystery Mountain. Unfortunate that the Plunge and two new runs on the back of Moose are not yet open due to lack of snow despite above normal amounts for this time of the year. Nevertheless, Lutsen does not disappoint and definitely worth the 8-hour drive from southern WI.

Untracked, Icy Spots, Uncrowded, Snowy

Skied here on 12/28 and 12/29. Got 6+ inches of actual powder on on the 29th and had a ball creating fresh tracks all morning (and a few in the afternoon as well). Base underneath was hard pack with several icy spots. Everything was flat/groomed the first day, but bumps developed by end of second day that they appear to be keeping on some runs. Only limited terrain parks open at this point.

Groomed, Skied Off, Refrozen, Sun-Baked, Wind-Packed, Bullet-Proof, Trashed, Thin, Thin Spots, Icy Spots, Rocky Spots, Bare Spots, Uncrowded, Calm, Flat Light, Making Snow

It was the worst day I've had in Lutsen in a long time won't go back for a month or more just not worth the drive ill stop at spirit in Duluth first much better for open runs
